PTFE Powder Compounding
Virgin PTFE Powder (polytetrafluoroethylene) is a thermopolymer used in a broad range of industry applications.
PTFE has a number of advantageous properties which are unique in the family of plastics:
- An exceptionally broad temperature application range from -260°C up to 260°C
- Almost universal chemical resistance
- UV and weather resistant
- Extremely low coefficient of friction
- Anti stick properties
- Good electric and dielectric properties
- FDA Approved (physiologically harmless)
- Hydrophobic (not water absorbent)
Isocomp will blend PTFE powder with other materials, known as fillers, to produce a compound product. These fillers are incorporated into PTFE to enhance or modify a number of properties that aren't characteristic of unfilled PTFE:
- To increase wear resistance
- Affect wear behaviour of the mating surface
- To reduce creep under load
- To increase thermal conductivity
- To reduce thermal expansion
- To modify electrical properties
Our engineers have the experience to advise on the right type of compound and compound mix that will best fit your engineering application.
PTFE Powder Compound Types
Isocomp manufactures the following PTFE compound types:
- Non-Free Flow: For general compression moulding (offering the best physical properties)
- Free Flow: For large part compression and isostatic moulding
- Auto Mould: Fine free flowing material for automatic moulding machines
PTFE Powder Compound Fillers
Isocomp blends and compounds PTFE powder resin with other materials to achieve a fluoro polymer for the most demanding engineering solutions that has properties unique to the application performance required.
The most common fillers and the advantages of each when combined with PTFE Powder are are:
